Associate Professor
Associate Professor Alex Viardot is a Consultant Endocrinologist, specialising in hormonal and metabolic health. He is a Senior Staff Specialist in the Department of Endocrinology, joint Deputy Director of the Diabetes Service at St Vincent’s Hospital, and Consultant at St Vincent’s Private Hospital. He is actively involved in research and teaching at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and St Vincent’s Clinical School, University of New South Wales Sydney.
After completing his specialist training in internal medicine and endocrinology in Switzerland he joined the St Vincent’s Campus and the Garvan Institute in 2004 to pursue a PhD. He was appointed staff specialist in 2012 after returning from the UK, where he worked as a postdoctoral NHMRC Research Fellow at the Imperial College London.
At the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, he is Group Leader of the Prader-Willi syndrome research group, with a research focus on fundamental mechanisms of insulin resistance, inflammation and appetite hormones, and ongoing clinical studies in Prader-Willi syndrome investigating new treatments of hyperphagia and obesity.
